A full on beard, pointed towards the ends, fit for a member of the Peaky Blinders cast. Clearly a gym goer and drives a black Audi A4 with blackout windows, lives in Childwall and wearing a suit hand crafted by Phillip Alexander. You don't get much more of a man than this! But guess what.... he cried at his wedding!!!! We all know Men don't cry right? When shooting this chaps wedding he expressed a great deal of concern that he may not be able to hold his emotions in during the ceremony. I could sense his anxiety seeping through the freshly tailored suit and it made me realise how much some blokes worry about their big day.
Now this does make sense as typically the Bride puts a smidge more thought into the wedding day compared to the Groom. This can lead to a flood of overwhelming emotions on the wedding day given the lack of preparation of what is actually happening come the big day. Or at least this was the case for me. We had spent so much time planning seating arrangements, transport, music, dancefloors, photographers, colour themes, flowers, food, favours, rings......... you can misplace the reality of a room full of your closest family and friends plus the marriage to the partner you love. So when it comes to the morning of the wedding and after 12-18months of planning, reality hits you flat on the chin and it simply is overwhelming!
I found it overwhelming how much effort everyone had made, how amazing everyone looked and how all of our thoughts and ideas had come together to create this perfect setting. Then there was the magical moment where I got to see how my wife looked and how special the entire day was. This is enough to make any man cry, no matter of their stature, their job or their path in life. It's just one of the most incredible days that makes people react in different ways. So when it comes to any nerves you might have when standing in front of your friends and family and shedding a tear, remember that it won't make you look like a wimp. Nobody will think any less of you and it is completely natural and normal!
A wedding is real and the emotion of the day is unexplainable until you have experienced it yourself. So as i say to all Grooms, enjoy the moment! Forget what people think, nobody is judging you and its about and your partner.
